Isaiah - Final Blog

Difficulty:

The game didn't seem to be as hard as we had hoped, so maybe I can add more areas to make the Scuffedemon harder to find.

Music:

It doesn't seem like anyone complained about the music or its volume, so that's good.

Battles:

There should probably be more battles, since this is a Pokemon-like game, so I could add more trainers around. We need to incentivize the player to do these battles however, since currently there's no money or exp system. We also (maybe) need to add some sort of healing mechanism for the player's team, or at least a lose condition, because currently people were unaware that there was no healing system and soft-locked themselves by having their entire team defeated. There's also a problem with ability spamming, where all sorts of calculations go wonky if the player spams moves.

Movement:

The hard part about this movement is that it uses colliders and Unity's built-in horizontal and vertical tracking. There is no grid based system. As a result, objects in the world sometimes have weird colliders, or players can get stuck in spots they aren't supposed to. To fix this, we would have to change the entire movement system and somehow have the player move in a grid.

Atmosphere:

Players described the atmosphere as somber, calming, quiet, and the like. Maybe the music should change to reflect this, as the night-time and lighting effects were added much later, but at the moment it should be okay.

Bugs/Glitches:

Most of the bugs and glitches were part of the battling system, which was addressed in the previous Battles section. Other than that, there was a player that reported instantly getting into a fight with the final boss because when walking through a door, the player movement isn't paused, so they just kept walking and were caught off guard by the fight.

Misc.:

Traditional features of a pokemon game like dialogue, exp, money, and healing are all absent, so those would need to be added to the player doesn't feel like they're playing a cheap ripoff but rather a well made fan project.
